It's time for our 2nd annual retreat in memory of our friend and fiber mentor, Jane. The prayer shawl we wove last year turned out so beautiful, that I've warped the loom to do another. This year I used some handspun wensleydale yarn in shades of purple for the warp, and a soft worsted weight black single. The black yarn I won at the Knit at Night Guild 10th anniversary judged event, and is "Serendipity" by Dancing Fibers. There's no way I was going to knit anything in black, so this is the perfect project. The wensleydale was part of an early spinning project. It was spun worsted which made it a bit too harsh for knitting, so it had been languising in my knitting basket for years. But it is making great warp! The combination of the firmly spun warp, and the soft weft is making a very nice fabric. I spent last weekend getting everything started, and will save the rest of the weaving for friends to help with next weekend at our retreat. We'll be doing a 2x2 twill, which will be something new for the knitting weavers.
